Welcome back to this vary blog, folks! Hopefully you're all doing well, because as for me, recent times has been a busy one, but knowing how I roll, I always have time to play games and write something about them haha. So in this post, I'm bringing another review of a game I recently finished, it's titled Zelle.
Zelle is another published by Odencat and developed by Fuming that was released back in April 2020. The game can be downloaded through the Play Store and Steam, but I downloaded mine through the Play Store. The game is not free, and it's being sold in the Play Store for IDR 24,000 or around 2$USD. The game weights around 145MB, quite big for Odencat's recent games. So without further ado, let's dive into the review!
The Story
At the start, we find ourselves in a dark castle over a mountain as a boy. In the room we are in, we're met with a tall masked man who orders us to not leave the room and wander around the castle. But as soon as he leaves, our character unsurprisingly leaves the room, and there our journey to leave this castle begins. As we wander deeper into the castle, he realizes that this is no ordinary building as ghosts and spooky apparitions start showing themselves. With these threats on our hand, we are then met with a goddess, who gives us three rosaries(each with their own colors) to fight off the demons. After that surprising encounter with her, we then continue our journey around the castle where we later will meet other residents, uncover who is the masked man who turns out to be the castle's owner, and finally making our way home and recovering our lost memories. This would turn into one exciting supernatural adventure!
The Gameplay
Zelle is sure a breath of fresh air from Odencat, considering that this is not a visual novel game. Zelle follows the mechanics of an adventure point and click game, as shown in our exploration around the castle where we are faced with many puzzles and that we can interact with other characters. Another aspect that makes this game stands out of its predecessors to me is the exorcism part of the game. This game also possesses many jump scares, but instead of only leaving it there, we have to respond to it by performing exorcism. After the demon appears in the jump scares, we will use the rosaries given by the goddess, we then choose which one among the three that suites the current demon we are meeting. To defeat the demons, we will have to choose the rosary that has matching color with the demon's eyes, but that's not all as the sequence of the rosaries will change each time, from having them laid before us to choosing them as they rain down in mass. Another thing I love about the game is the theme! It works really good(especially the main theme) and I love the variety of it! Kudos to Xion for composing the theme!
Overall Thought
This game has renewed my interest to Odencat games! It sure has been some time of me playing any of their games, with the last one being the Mousebuters. I really love how they brought out new genre of games to their menu and the surprisingly fun and exciting mechanic it has. Another thing is that it differs in the art style than its predecessors, where most of them are pixelated while this one is not. Not to mention how nice the soundtracks are, this game really grows on me! So in the end, I will give the game a solid 9/10. Good job Odencat and Fuming! I can't wait for your next project!
