Unraveling The Past! A Bear's Restaurant Game Review

I'm back again with another game review(come to think of it, it's been a while since the last time I posted something none-game), this time I'm reviewing another game made by OdenCat in 2018. It's another narrative/storytelling game that earned my attention to it. So let's dive in!

The game begins with a cat waking up from her bed, she's awakened by her partner the bear, reminding her to suit up as it was time for the restaurant to be running again. You'll change your clothes and that's where I realized that I don't know where we are and what are we doing there, turns out the bear and the cat ran a restaurant in the intersection between hell and heaven, where the good souls would arrive in the station and stop by for their last meal.

The cat works as the waiter, collecting the orders and handing out the meals. While the bear is the cook and the owner, cooking the food and managing the whole thing. Every time the cat delivers the food, he'll receive a memory shard, a shard that contains the finest memory of the customer and the final memories when they were alive. The cat will later perform a memory dive, to uncover the past life of each customer. People ranging from baby to a workaholic come there, even animals.

The memory shard that caught my attention most was from a child, he comes to the restaurant asking for a cup noodle. In the shard it explains that his minimal taste was due to his past life experience, he was terminally ill, as every day of his life he is kept intact on a bed inside a hospital, his life was gloomy and tedious, but thanks to his peers, they brought light to his life. Telling stories they had at school, making jokes, sharing cup noodles, and giving him endless support so he could heal completely and play with them! One day after a friend left, he thought to himself he had to recover himself as he no longer could bear the torment here until suddenly his condition went downhill, he started vomiting blood, unable to call the nurse nor his parents he finally died in that room.

Another one that caught my emotion comes from a pregnant mother when she came to the restaurant she asked for a pasta/spaghetti. Her past life was filled with hope and joy, she was excited to welcome her baby, her own flesh and blood to her life. She would visit many restaurants each day to eat. One night she had a delightful meal, spaghetti/pasta, after she was done with the meal, she thought to herself of her baby, commenting on the food she had just eaten. Upon stepping out of the restaurant, she crossed a zebra-cross, just when she was about to get to the other end, a truck suddenly ran over the road, killing her and the baby she carried inside. There will be many customers, but these two are just my personal favorite.

The upcoming days will go smoothly until something odd happened, a devil visits the place. The devil demands despair, the bear personally responds to the devil as its something they don't have and orders him to leave at once. The devil seems to be angered to the answer so he left with a threat that he would devour the entire place! After a while, the bear and the cat start to notice things are not right, as when they go outside the sky was blood red. Worried, the two decides to go to the station where the customers are supposed to be waiting for the train to heaven. Once they arrive, they were right. Something was empty, it's supposed to be filled by the customers but instead the only aside from them was the demon. it had grown bigger as turns out he has consumed the customers there. The devil suddenly grabs both cat and bear, pouring them to its mouth.

The cat will wake up inside a dark void, along with the bear, there the devil torments the bear telling him that his whole life is filled with despair, a meal the devil desires most. It suddenly pulls the bear down, leaving no trace behind, the same would later happen to us. To my surprise, the bear's back story is a lot more grief, he had lost her daughter, who he had thought committed suicide at school(don't worry she doesn't commit suicide, as later on, it was an accident that killed her). After he died, instead of going to heaven he decided to settle in the intersection of hell and heaven, opening a restaurant hoping he would be reunited with her daughter there. A little note, in the previous life, the bear was a human, the bear appearance is only the form he chose after he died.

From there he starts to blame himself for not being there with her daughter as turns out she had been bullied by her peers. From there we found out the weakness of the devil, Hope! This is my favorite part of the game, where we will be gathering the hopes of the souls there. Afterward, we would gather them up into one huge light, where we will share it with the bear and together defeating the devil! Then finally things got back to normal (unless it doesn't...).

After that, we would later know from the bear's memories that the cat we've been playing as all along has been his daughter this entire time! It's proven in one of her daughter's drawing

After all the chaos, the devil comes back, this time it's weaker than before. The devil is really sad for what it has done and because of its loneliness, the cat would try to comfort it until suddenly a dark portal opens and sucks in the two, realizing this the bear cannot just stand around doing nothing so off he goes to the hell, looking for his daughter in the hell's nihility. It's the aftermath of the game and to unlock it you could either pay for it or watch a lot of ads to earn it for free.

A little sneak peek of the aftermath XD

My final thought of this game that it's absolutely magnificent! The storyline and the idea of the plot are just brilliant, the same also goes for the character developments. The soundtrack is another thing, as its totally gorgeous! It blends in really well with the story, bringing the whole situation a lot deeper and making us give our full attention to it. My final score for this game is 9/10. Try it for yourself!

Re-coloring the grey spaces: A "Lilac and Her Light" Game Review

Howdy folks! How is it all going? Hopefully good. So I recently managed to set aside some time to complete a game (as if I never have time for it XD), and write a review of it. This time, its going to be a brief review of a game I finished in less than an hour. This is a review of Lilac and Her Light! Lilac and Her Light is a game developed by Npckc and was released back in October 2018. Its a story based pixelated game(one of my favorite types!) or you can say that its an RPG/Role playing games. You can download it through the Play Store or the developer's website (I'll drop the link below later). The game is pretty small, only around 16 Mb, meaning its practically accessible with phones nowadays.  The Story At the start, we will find ourselves playing as a girl, named Lilac, who lives in an extraordinary grey house, in which every house hold items and Lilac herself are also grey. We soon learn that she has an odd condition where everything that made contact with her would los

Working on a Terrific Masterpiece! A Death Palette Game Review

Howdy, folks! It's me again, the author of this lonely blog. these past weeks have been filled with semester breaks, something that I truly enjoy after all the hustle in the 2nd semester. In that break, I have played many games, some of which I'll review and bring here. Now, let's get into one of them, the menu for today will be a review of Death Palette. Enjoy! Death Palette is a puzzle & story based game with horror elements to it. The game was developed by Sleeping museum, an indie developer based in Japan, and was made available in google Play Store in February 2020. The game has been around for some time but it was only starting to get attention after its latest update, one that brought an English translation to it. Hence, allowing more people to experience the game. The game weighs around 50 MB, quite light in my opinion. With its introduction out of the way, let's dive into its parts! The Story The game tells a story of a beginner painter, who was given an un

In Search of a Bird's Family: A Grayland Game Review

Hello and back again with me. Yes, it hasn't been long after my last post and if you're thinking why, the answer is quite simple. As for now, I'm trying to improve my writing, both in terms of quality and as a habit, and I figured that this activity may be a suitable means of doing it(and hey! Another legit reason to play games!). Alright enough with the background, and let's get into this game! Its a game review of none other than Grayland. Grayland is a 2D adventure game developed and published by 1DER Entertainment back in December 2019. This unity powered game is available to play on both pc and mobile experience. This game doesn't take up much space as it only weighs around 50 MB.  Story The game begins with a cutscene showing some hunters who just caught a bird nest, complete with the eggs and the bird. After they left, we will see another bird, previously shot down by the hunters, getting back up and in pursue of its family. Along the way, we will see how mes
